AI or IRL?
Suzi Dougherty entered a local photography competition with a photo of her son taken on her iPhone. The image depicted him posing with mannequins at a Gucci exhibition.
The judges initially loved the photo but eventually rejected it, suspecting it was generated by artificial intelligence (AI). Dougherty took the rejection in good humor and found it flattering.
The competition's terms and conditions specified that AI-generated images were not eligible. The owner of the printing store hosting the competition acknowledged the potential need for an AI section in the future but emphasized the importance of participants taking the images themselves.
Determining if an image was AI-generated has become challenging due to advancements in technology. Despite being disqualified, Dougherty expressed interest in entering future competitions.
