All About Local ...
The American Journalism Project conducted a study to understand what people want from their local news outlets. Through conversations with nearly 5,000 residents in eight local markets, they found that people want more local news that is focused on their specific communities.
They also want a trusted source of facts, a full and balanced story of their communities, transparency from decision-makers, representation in the news, their questions to be asked by journalists, actionable information, news that meets them where they are, and newsrooms that connect and convene communities.
Our research team has identified nine common themes across every market where we’ve talked to people about local news that include insights for all of us to consider as the nonprofit news industry continues to grow.
