Faithful To Light
I see this spot at least once a week. Sunday. 8 am Mass. The rituals and dedication of faith.
My favorite moments in church are like this one when I see the light. Not the metaphorical explanation prescribed from the pulpit. Not the holy praise from the priest. Not the catechism or from the canon.
The real sun. Sunlight streaming through stained glass windows and open doors creating lines and shadows and depth. Filling just enough light so the shadows aren’t cast into darkness. Hard lines and soft lines sharing the same source. Reflecting off adjacent surfaces so they contain the texture of each other.
Becoming a tableau of faith that begins with understanding the light. Understanding light is the praise, an act of devotion and reverence. The artistic process of composing a photograph with careful consideration of light is a deeply meaningful and almost sacred journey.
