I Should Have ...
I made another photo of Dave today as I always do when I see him Uptown.
This time of the year it’s usually of him in transit with his rolling walker or in residence at the coffee shop where he always offers to buy me coffee.
The photos are usually ordinary, barely rated above snapshots. But there’s a lot of them. And I’ve been making even more recently expanding my Dave collection beyond what might be considered normal, even for me.
I have a good reason.
Several years ago, I kept telling myself I wanted portrait time with Jeff. He would make a great portrait. Gray hair, face weathered with wisdom, smile lines defining bright eyes, and an eager mind.
Never did find the opportunity to make that portrait although I saw him at least once a week usually at some civic event where he was an active participant either as an organizer or as a mentor to others.
He would have made a great portrait.
I never got to make that portrait. A heart attack took him.
I have only one photo of Jeff in My Final Photo. It’s a news photo. Not very flattering. Not a portrait.
I should have made that portrait.
