Master The Basics?
That “Master the Basics” thing from yesterday was way too short.
First, what are the basics? Food, clothing, and shelter. That’s all you need, unless you’re a photographer then suddenly everything is basics.
Here are the main photographer basics: exposure, lighting, focus, depth of field, shutter speed, f-stops, camera and lens choice, post-processing, subject matter, storytelling, and consistency. Also, a good raincoat, dry shoes, and a credential holder.
Consistency shouldn’t be on the list. It should be the result of mastering everything on the list,
The greatest thing about consistency is that it does not require perfection in any of the items on the list. Thinking that you’ve mastered the list or become master over the variables on the list removes you from the list of masters.
You will never become the master. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep trying.
Trying makes you the Master.
