Take It When You Can Get It
Out for a stroll along the creek bank, all I carried was my phone.
The sunset was near perfect with streaks of golden light breaking through the trees along the creek and falling across the adjacent park where students from the nearby university were playing volleyball.
Playing volleyball in one of those masterful streaks of golden light. A streak that would have made any lighting director envious. What needed to be in the shade fell just outside the primary scene where the action was happening. Even the shadow of the berm protecting the park from high water fell just to the edge of the court.
Only made a few frames but the phone’s ability to recover shadows and highlights turned the photo flat, with little contrast despite the tight beam of light on the subject.
With selections in a couple of apps, I converted the original into the striking view I had witnessed. Added some soft focus and sent it on its way.
